Do you dream of walking out into your garden and cutting a fresh bunch of flowers for your table? Or gathering a few stems to gift to a friend? Do you want to learn how to have flowers throughout the growing season, and not just for a few months of the year? This workshop is for you!
Join farmer-florist Marisa Mender-Franklin for this four part series, where you'll learn how to plan a garden that will produce balanced bouquets from April through October. Your workshop ticket includes a seed kit with 10 ranunculus corms and 4 packets of fall-sown seeds.
Part 1: Winter Sowing for Early Spring Blooms. During this 90 minute workshop, we'll learn how to set up mini-greenhouses using recycled containers to get earlier spring blooms. We'll cover what varieties of flowers benefit from this method, how to care for your seedlings once they've germinated and then everyone will get to make 3 greenhouses to take home (seeds and soil included!).
Part 2: Planning a Cutting Garden. During this 90 minute workshop, we will cover site selection, plant selection, timing, spacing, and all of the factors we consider when deciding whether to include a particular plant in our garden plan. You will also receive a guide of our favorite cut flower varieties and seed sources.
Part 3: Seed Starting 101. During this 90 minute workshop you'll learn the basics of starting seeds indoors. We'll cover everything from what soil and materials you'll need to how to keep your seedlings happy.
Part 4: Building Your Garden from the Ground Up. During this 90 minute workshop, we will discuss how to prepare your garden beds, soil tests and amendments and weed suppression. You will receive a detailed guide that you can reference as you work in your garden this year.
You have two options for how to participate. Choose either our standard, 4 part series (four 1-hour classes on Wednesday nights), or our Boot Camp version (two 2-hour classes on Sunday afternoons).
Standard Series: Takes place the first 4 Wednesdays in October at 6 pm (October 2, 9, 16, and 23). Each class will last roughly 1 hour.
Boot Camp Series: Sunday September 29th at 2 pm (covers parts 1 and 2) and Sunday, October 13th at 2 pm (covers parts 3 and 4). Each class will last roughly 2 hours.
Workshop space is very limited and, as a result, we do not offer refunds. If you do need to miss a workshop, we will gladly work with you to get you the materials you missed, or, when possible, offer you a seat at the next workshop.
